California, Bay Area, see growth in cities

California, and the San Francisco Bay Area in particular, saw cities grow in 2007, in contrast to previous years when suburban areas boomed. "The Bay Area seems to be maintaining a healthy growth rate," said Mary Heim, the state's demographer. "It might be partly the fact the Bay Area is a good draw for immigrants." Immigration is propelling California's population growth, she said.
