Blumenthal: Grant programs seek to create 50,000 health IT careers

National Coordinator for Health Information Technology Dr. David Blumenthal said that some of his agency's $2 billion in discretionary funds are being pumped into education and training programs designed to help meet the demand for about 50,000 health IT professionals by 2015. Much of the training is for individuals who can staff 60 regional IT extension centers that will help rural health care facilities become meaningful users of EMRs, Blumenthal said.
