DISH offers film day-and-date with theater premiere, comes to terms with TiVo

DISH Network will offer the film "Passion Play" for rent on Friday -- the same day it opens in theaters -- for $5.99 in HD and $4.99 in standard definition. Separately, the company, along with its former unit EchoStar, has settled a long-standing feud with TiVo over DVR patents under a deal disclosed Monday in which TiVo will receive $500 million to end all its litigation over the technology. Meanwhile, DISH reported 5.5% growth in first-quarter revenue from a year ago and 58,000 new subscribers. Chairman Charlie Ergen says the company is considering its long-term plans for Blockbuster's stores and digital assets.
