Food lovers prepare to welcome the king of salumi to U.S. shores

With the USDA's announcement Friday that six Italian provinces can now export pork products to the U.S., food lovers across the country are eagerly anticipating the arrival of goods such as salami and culatello, a celebrated part of the prosciutto ham. The decision to allow these imports was based on new findings that show the region cleared of swine vesicular disease, which had been discovered there in the 1960s and is impossible to eradicate from the meat even after cooking and curing.
