Glut of top-level domains may dilute the value of the .com

Now that the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers is increasing the number of top-level domains from 23 to more than 1,400, search engine optimization efforts will have to adjust, writes Laurie Sullivan. "TLDs will become ZIP codes or category regulators. Search engines will begin to weigh the TLD name as a category, and .com will become diluted in search results -- less valuable," writes Sullivan, summarizing Jennifer Wolfe, president of Wolfe Domain.
