Retinopathy, microalbuminuria raise renal risk in diabetes

A study in Diabetes Care revealed type 2 diabetes patients with microalbuminuria or diabetic retinopathy were more likely to progress to macroalbuminuria compared with those who did not have the conditions. Researchers also noted faster annual decline in the estimated glomerular filtration rate in patients who showed both risk factors compared with those in the other groups.
