Technologies bringing maximal personalization to medicine

Taking advantage of what is known about the human genome and putting it to use, so-called P4 medicine -- predictive, preventive, personalized and participatory -- is just around the corner, predicts Daniel Reed, chairman of bioinformatics at the University of Iowa. Enabling all this will be advances in mobile sensors and the big data analytics. Equally important will be the microfluidics, nanotechnology, microelectronics and robotics that bring down the price of the genome sequencing that underlies it all.
