When should schools introduce advanced math concepts?

Only one-third of students in Clark County Schools in Nevada passed their math proficiency exam, an outcome some district leaders say they expected because the cut score has increased since last year to 300 from 242. Linda Gojak, president of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, says advanced math instruction needs to begin in first and second grade, so students will enter middle school with a strong foundation in math.
