Woodchip biomass boilers save school $350K

The Hotchkiss School in Connecticut got rid of its oil-burning boiler and installed woodchip biomass boilers. The move cut its carbon footprint by 35% to 45% and slashed $350,000 from its energy bill in just the first half of winter. The boilers are in a newly constructed building that has a green roof, complete with bioswales and rain gardens to mitigate runoff. The building is the country's third power facility to be LEED-certified.
