FDA issues acetaminophen reminder to physicians

The FDA has reminded health care providers to discontinue prescribing -- and pharmacists to discontinue dispensing -- prescription drug products with more than 325 milligrams of acetaminophen per dosage unit. "These products are no longer considered safe by FDA ... and were voluntarily withdrawn by the manufacturers at the FDA's request to protect consumers from the risk of severe liver damage, which can result from taking too much acetaminophen," the agency said.
