Survey: 73% of physicians say unnecessary procedures are serious problem

An ABIM Foundation "Choosing Wisely" telephone survey of 600 U.S. physicians found 73% acknowledged that unnecessary medical tests and procedures are a serious problem and 47% said patients ask for one at least once a week. Survey data showed 72% of physicians said an average physician prescribes an unnecessary test or procedure at least once each week and 53% said they would do so if a patient insisted.
