Parents push to allow failing students to pursue extracurriculars

Montgomery County (Md.) schools is considering relaxing its academic eligibility policy in response to parent complaints that the tough standards leave at-risk students with nothing to do in the afternoons after classes end. The proposed change would allow freshman with GPAs less than 2.0 to play sports and join clubs as long as they sought academic help and improved their grades over time.
