Grocery stores focus on fresh, convenient meals

With studies indicating that consumers have less time to grocery shop, supermarkets are offering more convenience foods, such as take-home "meal solutions" and ready-to-go-meals from local restaurants. Food makers are also getting in on the act, with Banquet expanding its Crock Pot classics line and Menu Fresh offering ready-to-eat fajita kits. "People aren't cooking like they used to ... Stores are experimenting with creating departments right at the front of the store for grab-and-go," said Michael Sansolo, senior vice president of the Food Marketing Institute.
