EHRs are linked to increased hospital costs

A study of 326 hospitals indicated that those that are more advanced in their electronic health record implementation showed higher nurse staffing levels, higher rates of complications but lower mortality rates for some ailments. The study also found that EHRs in hospitals were linked to a 6% to 10% increase in cost per discharge from medical-surgical acute care facilities.
