BP agrees to pay $25 million fine over Alaskan oil spill

BP will pay a $25 million fine as part of a settlement with the federal government regarding an oil spill on Alaska's North Slope in 2006, according to court documents filed Tuesday. In response to the incident, BP has "started implementation and operation of some corrective measures, including replacement of the Prudhoe Bay oil transit lines, improved leak detection on the oil transit lines, and improved operation and maintenance of the Pipeline System," the company stated in the papers.
