E10 blend wall is hurting ethanol producers

The E10 blend wall and slumping demand for fuel are prompting ethanol producers to cut costs and turn to corn-oil extraction and other methods to raise revenue, executives said at a conference in Nebraska. Another bottleneck for the industry is the lack of awareness among flex-fuel-vehicle owners that they can use E85 or other intermediate blends, said Doug Durante, executive director of the Clean Fuels Development Coalition. Lack of knowledge about FFVs' ability to take in ethanol blends cuts the size of this market segment from 9 million cars to between 1 million and 2 million, Durante said.
