NRC schedules hearing for Ohio plant's relicensing bid

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has scheduled a May 18 hearing on a contention filed by several groups against FirstEnergy's bid to extend the operating license of its Davis-Besse nuclear plant in Ohio. The groups argue that the plant should no longer be allowed to operate because of the cracks discovered in its shield building. FirstEnergy, however, said the cracks did not affect the shield building's safety.
