EEOC secures $240M award in discrimination case

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has secured a $240 million jury verdict, the largest ever for the agency. The case involves allegations that a turkey-processing company discriminated against people with disabilities in several ways, such as by verbally abusing them and having them live in run-down housing. The outcome "marks one of the EEOC's finest moments in its ongoing efforts to combat employment discrimination, especially discrimination against vulnerable and historically underserved populations," according to EEOC General Counsel David Lopez.
