Fifty days estimated for I-580 fix in San Francisco area

Nine construction companies have the weekend to draw up a proposal to fix the collapsed section of the Bay Bridge in 50 days that costs less than $20 million under a Caltrans plan to speed up repairs on the MacArthur Maze, according to Caltrans Director Will Kempton. The contractors must finish repairs by June 29 or face a fine of $200,000 a day from the state.
