Researchers develop technique that may control AIDS virus

Australian researchers have developed a therapeutic vaccine called overlapping peptide-pulsed autologous cells that trains immune system cells to recognize the AIDS virus and destroy it more effectively. OPAL involves combining blood cells from patients with peptides from HIV. Trials on monkeys infected with a similar virus found that OPAL therapy controlled the infection, and human trials are being planned, the scientists said.
