Consumer, manufacturing indexes signal economic recovery

The economy may be on the road to recovery, according to recent manufacturing and consumer confidence figures. The factory index released in March by the Institute for Supply Management rose from 36.3 to 40.1. An index reading below 50 indicates a contraction. Meanwhile, an index of consumer sentiment released by Reuters/University of Michigan climbed to 65.1 and posted its largest increase in two years.
