IBM, Oracle up the ante

The competitive pressure in the wake of Oracle's decision to purchase Sun Microsystems continues to come to light. IBM, which turned away from a deal with Sun, is doubling the value of incentives it offers businesses that switch from Sun's hardware to IBM's. Meanwhile, Oracle said Monday that it will give customers with aging software a break before increasing maintenance fees as previously planned.
