Why GE and Intel think WiMAX will reinvent the grid

Grid Net, a company that makes software to manage a power grid over WiMAX, is betting that open standards will usher us into a new era of electricity management. Ray Bell, founder of the startup, says he has four major deals in the works and contends that his smart meter will eventually be cheaper than proprietary systems on the market. GE and Intel have signed on as investors and production partners.
