About 20% of mastectomy patients get reconstruction

A study of postmastectomy reconstruction rates in California indicates that patients may need more information about reconstruction options, according to breast cancer surgeon Laura Kruper, the study's lead author, who says she requires her patients to consult a plastic surgeon. The number of patients choosing reconstruction is rising, but insurance status, race and hospital type appear to be factors.
