EPA's new standards for mowers take effect next year

Using an older-model gas-powered lawnmower for one hour can emit as much pollution as driving a sedan from Washington, D.C., to Boston, says Bill Becker, executive director of the National Association of Clean Air Agencies. As a result, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is implementing new standards for mowers, setting a 35% emissions reduction standard that will go into effect next year. However, modern lawn equipment is already more energy-efficient than earlier models, experts say.
