Pilots not opposed to merger:

Continental and United pilots are open to discussing a merger. They say the Delta Air Lines contract that helped win approval for a merger with Northwest Airlines is a good place to start -- but more is needed. Jay Pierce, chairman of the Air Line Pilots Association at Continental, notes that his members have been negotiating for three years, and the proposed merger is "a vehicle to rectify that situation." Pierce says he will try to assure that Continental's limits on regional jet flying, which are more restrictive than the limits in the United contract, are expanded.
