Smartphone shipments increase 67% in Q1

Evidence continues to mount that smartphone makers have entered their recovery phase as research firm Canalys reported global shipments increased 67%, to 55.2 million, in the first quarter compared with a year earlier. Nokia remained the leader with 21.4 million shipments, a 57% gain, but its market share slipped from 41% to 39%. Research in Motion stayed constant in second place with 19%. Apple's share increased to 16%, and HTC ranked fourth.
