Agriculture breakthrough brightens prospects for world trade talks

Ministers to the World Trade Organization reached a politically sensitive compromise on agricultural tariffs that weighs interests between European countries and poorer countries such as Brazil. Under the agreement, flat-rate import duties previously assessed by tonnage will now be based on goods' value. French farmers in particular may be adversely affected by the agreement.
