Lawmakers cut DHS budget, eliminate plan to raise airline fees

Lawmakers cut almost $500 million from the Homeland Security Department's 2006 proposed budget on Wednesday, USA Today reports. It also cut $1.7 billion in fees that would have been raised by increasing taxes on airline tickets. Lawmakers said they cut the budget because the department has ignored requests for more information about the budget.
