Alcatel-Lucent vows "action" after disappointing quarter

Alcatel-Lucent today maintained its profit outlook for the year even after reporting higher losses and a 6.9% decline in revenue, saying the global recession continues to curb demand for its telecom equipment. "We are taking appropriate actions," said CEO Ben Verwaayen. Alcatel said it expected the global market to dip 8% to 12% this year.
