Massachusetts hospitals feel pinch as patients forgo care

Job and health insurance losses are being felt among Massachusetts health care providers as patients delay medical care and procedures. A Massachusetts Hospital Association survey found 59% of hospitals reported a reduction in elective surgeries in 2008 and into early fiscal 2009. The Red Cross canceled blood drives because the demand for blood supplies has dropped.
