Commercial and industrial lending has yet to see improvement

U.S. banks predict that their commercial and industrial loans will increase to 24.7% of their portfolios this year, but to date there has been no sign of expansion. Contributing to the problem, experts say: the banking industry's decadelong fixation on real estate lending. Proposed regulatory reforms also are expected to heighten the problem.
