New technologies could recycle power plants' waste heat

Power plants waste most of the energy they produce by converting it into heat rather than electricity. Now, a number of new technologies promise to allow that heat to be recycled and used to generate electricity. Thermoelectric devices that convert temperature differences into electric currents could cut global carbon emissions by half a billion metric tons per year, according to some reports.
