Proposal would alter way FDIC charges banks to cover deposits

Sen. Jon Tester, D-Mont., has offered an amendment to the financial-overhaul legislation that would change the way the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. levies charges for insuring bank deposits. Large banks are raising concerns about the proposal because it would allow the FDIC to treat some banks, including Bank of New York Mellon and State Street, differently.
