Slaughterhouse bill in Vermont could be dropped

A bill in Vermont that aims to toughen the penalties and fines for slaughterhouse abuses in the state may not become law, lawmakers said Tuesday. Instead, legislators seemed more inclined to pass a lighter bill that would authorize the state's Livestock Advisory Council to devise regulations for the proper treatment of animals slated for slaughter.
