How one struggling N.C. school challenges its students who are high-achievers

Ashley Park School in Charlotte, N.C., uses the AVID program to enrich the education of students who are high-achievers with projects in science, technology, engineering and math; poetry writing; and time for tutoring younger students when others are getting extra math and literacy lessons. The school, which is receiving funds from a national public-private partnership called Project Lift, struggles to attract and keep students who are high-achievers because of its reputation as a low-performing school.
