Retention of gas prevents Saturn from cooling down

French and British astronomers say Saturn is not cooling like other aging planets because physical instability on the planet has created layers of gas, keeping the planet warm. "Scientists have been wondering for years if Saturn was using an additional source of energy to look so bright, but instead our calculations show that Saturn appears young because it can't cool down," said Gilles Chabrier, a physics and astronomy professor at the University of Exeter.
