Federal smart grid funds lead to major improvements in Ruston, La.

An analysis of the federally supported infrastructure upgrade in of Ruston, La., shows that the deployment of more than 10,000 AMI-supported meters has helped the city's utility reduce costs, improve reliability and cut down on thefts and fraud. The municipality, which is home to 21,000 residents, was one of 99 chosen to receive matching funds from the U.S. Smart Grid Investment Grant program to support its $8.6 million grid deployment.
