Engineering students gravitate to green courses

Environmental awareness is growing among engineering students who are pursuing coursework beyond the usual technical disciplines. Among the offerings at Canada's McMaster University are classes in sustainable manufacturing process, biotechnology, water resource management and other environmental topics. "There is a trend towards more responsible engineering. It's not large, but is definitely growing," says Peter Topalovic, who is pursuing a master's degree in engineering and public policy.
