Louisiana governor calls for levee-fortification funds

Saying his state needs money for levee construction immediately, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal asked President George W. Bush to make available the $5.6 billion he pledged would be included in his 2009 budget. Jindal said the money is essential if his state is to complete fortification of New Orleans levees by the target date of 2011. However, federal spending bills have been delayed and aren't expected to pass before the end of the year.
