Layoffs prompt Facebook activism

When 270 employees of a Knoxville, Tenn., sign-making company lost their jobs, they rallied together on a Facebook group to share unemployment tips. Then, realizing that their whole city's economy was threatened by the recession, they lobbied firms to visit the city and hire its workers. "Ponder how hard organizing their community ... would have been without social media," Barry Hurd writes.
