Nurses key to disease prevention, wellness programs

National Nurses Week is a great time to spotlight how important nurses are to local disease prevention and wellness programs that have the potential to save the nation billions of dollars in health care costs. Nurses work with cancer survivors, asthma patients and diabetics, helping them stay healthy and keep up with treatment regimens. They also are responsible for many patient education programs that tackle public health issues, such as obesity, tobacco use and infant mortality.
