Google just invested $38.8 million in two North Dakota wind farms, prompting speculation that the company is preparing for a broader assault on the domestic clean-energy market. That could lead to the search giant bringing its information-management skills to bear on the energy sector, notes Sindya Bhanoo. "It's possible that greater access to data on consumer energy usage could prove as valuable as the keywords in Gmail or in Google search are in matching advertisers," Bhanoo adds.
