Many U.S. parents turn to dogs after their children leave home

Nearly a quarter of dog-owning American households are parents over the age of 45, which is by far the largest group, according to AVMA data. Similarly, most of the clients that frequent dog sports classes at a canine learning academy in Seattle reportedly have children who have left home.
