Study: Green roofs outperform white roofs but cost more

Columbia University studied the green and white roofs on Con Edison's training and conference center in the Long Island City neighborhood of Queens, N.Y. Researchers found the building's green roof reduced summer heat gains by up to 87%, and the white roof reduced it by up to 67%. The study concluded green roofs are more energy efficient than white roofs, but are also more expensive.
