Younger veterinarians choose small-animal practice

As most veterinarians practicing in food-animal care are retiring, the succeeding generation is pursuing small-animal practice instead, a trend that could put the country's food supply at risk, veterinary medicine and public health officials say. According to the AVMA, almost 50% of food-animal vets are over the age of 50, and only about 15% of veterinary graduates are choosing the food-animal-care field.
