Unemployment claims jump to a surprising high

The latest reports from the Labor Department -- unemployment benefit claims and productivity -- disappointed observers hoping for steady improvement. Claims for jobless benefits rose 43,000 last week to 474,000, the most since last summer. Productivity rose at a 1.6% annual rate in the first quarter of 2011, after a 2.9% increase in the previous quarter.
