Researchers find MRSA strain CC398 in veterinarians

A type of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus called CC398 is common among livestock veterinarians and the infections can carry on for a long time, according to a study in the journal Clinical Infectious Diseases. "The mean prevalence of MRSA CC398 carriage was 44%, and for S. aureus, the prevalence was 72%," according to the study. Additional studies are needed to pinpoint the factors behind persistent colonization, researchers added.
