European regulators plan a round of stress tests to see how well insurance companies would deal with financial market shocks and unexpected rises in their liabilities. The European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority will review insurers' ability to handle weak returns from the fixed income instruments that dominate their investment portfolios. A report is due in November.
