The Sonoma County Winegrowers is working to assist growers in Sonoma, Calif., with the process of achieving third-party sustainable certification status with the help of the organization's new sustainability manager Robert LaVine. The group announced it plans to reach 100% sustainable certification by 2019 by directing 20% of its budget into sustainability education, research and grant programs. "I think right now if you took a poll you’d have 75% of the growers behind it, and another 20% could be convinced. There’s a small part that’s going to take a lot of work to convince," said Winegrowers board member and owner of Balletto Vineyards & Winery John Balletto.
